For most of us, filling a car with fuel, or charging an electric vehicle is a simple task. But for disabled drivers, people with reduced mobility and older people it can be a significant challenge. Now, Ford has developed a prototype robot charging station that drivers operate via their smartphone from inside their electric vehicle. The technology could enable disabled drivers to stay in the car while charging, or they could leave the car while the robot does all the work.

CorPower Ocean has teamed up with composite machinery specialist Autonational and composite tank experts CPT Tankwell to successfully develop its first commercial-scale hull in Viana do Castelo (Portugal), using a custom-built machine, installed inside an environmentally controlled work cell that will become the future regarding mobility and scalability of CorPower's composite manufacturing capabilities.

Solar panels often get a bad rap for spoiling the appearance of homes and businesses. Yet, this may be about to change. A research group has fabricated a highly transparent solar cell with a 2D atomic sheet. These near-invisible solar cells achieved an average visible transparency of 79%, meaning they can, in theory, be placed everywhere - building windows, the front panel of cars, and even human skin.

Researchers have designed a fuel production system that uses water, carbon dioxide and sunlight to produce aviation fuel. They have implemented the system in the field, and the design could help the aviation industry become carbon neutral.

The issue with silicon solar cells is that they are not the best match for the solar spectrum. Only certain wavelengths can be efficiently utilized with existing cells. For example, ultraviolet and blue light aren't converted to electrical power as well as infrared light. This means that a great deal of the potential energy that could be captured is wasted.
